Sažetak
The first line of defence against the introduction of new harmful species of agricultural crops in a given geographical area is plant quarantine, which involves a series of management measures. The lists of quarantined species are contained in the regulations of the European Union and the Republic of Croatia, and the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) establishes and maintains an “Alert” list within its organization, which provides guidelines for the rapid identification, monitoring and control of the movement of harmful organisms threatening to enter European territory in order to reduce economic and environmental losses to the lowest possible level. New potentially invasive species are constantly added to the “Alert” list, and if individual harmful organisms spread and become domesticated, they are removed from the list. The paper describes the dipteran species currently on the EPPOs “Alert” list, with a particular focus on morphology, life
cycles, symptoms and damage, phytosanitary risks and control options.
