Contribution of Aurelija Ivanković to the theory and practice of preschool education in Croatia

Abstract
This paper examines the work of Aurelija Ivanković (1922–1993), a teacher at the School for Early Chilhood Educators and prominent pedagogical worker. Aurelija Ivanković was active in several pedagogical fields, but her greatest contribution was made in the field of the theory and practice of physical education of preschool aged children and education of early childhood teachers. She participated in the development of the first educational work programme for kindergartens. Based on her experience gained on the position of a preschool teacher in a children's home and based on the experience gained on the position of the teacher of physical education teacher and physical education teaching methodology at the School for early childhood educators, Aurelija Ivanković developed an original methodical approach to physical education of preschool children. She published several methodological monographs and handbooks.
