Abstract

The article presents fundamental aspects of the liturgical theology of baptism and chrismation, deepened by patristic thought (particularly that of Basil, Cyril, Chrysostom, Theodore...), by canonical-liturgical texts and above all by the Scripture, read in a typological vision that reveals the unifying theme of the history of salvation, that is, the nuptial covenant. The nuptial covenant stipulated by Christ with his Church at the Last Supper reaches all generations through the liturgy, by means of which the free adhesion to Christ is proposed to every newborn as the typological fulfilment of the stipulation of the Sinaitic covenant. The article touches themes of the new creation, of the new man recreated in baptism and of the seal of the Spirit received through anointing.
