Abstract

The contemporary theology instigates questions about the possibility of the theology of tenderness. It also lay stress on the importance of such questions for the modern man, not only in the psychology of interhuman relations but also in the psychology of religious experience in general. The image of God in the Old Testament comprises typical male and female features. God shows himself as father, but he also has a very expressive maternal face. He is the one who is full of justice and mercy. The Old Testament prepares the incarnation of Jesus Christ by relating human features to the acts of almighty God. One of these is corporality. In such a way the human body becomes the analogy for the revelation for God. The merciful love of God is therefore presented as love full of tenderness.
