Abstract

The article aims to present a new relationship of understanding between Scripture and Tradition in light of the correlation method. After introducing the theological issues surrounding the relationship between these two indispensable elements for theological epistemology, the article provides a brief historical overview of the problem, emphasizing the first criticisms of the Protestant understanding of Tradition/tradition and the response of the Council of Trent. A more complete understanding of the relationship between Scripture and Tradition was offered by the Second Vatican Council. Starting from Vatican II, the article sheds new light on the relationship between Scripture and Tradition. Bearing in mind the wealth of meaning offered by the correlation method and based on the relationship already established by D. Hercsik, the article applies the correlation method, indicating the concordance (unity), interdependence, and independence (difference) between Scripture and Tradition.
