Sažetak

An individual’s mother tongue undoubtedly influences his/her adoption of a given second and/or foreign language, which manifests itself as language interference on all levels of language, including syntactic. Thus, the verb rection to a certain extent also causes difficulties to the students whose mother tongue is Hungarian whilst learning and adopting the Croatian Language as a second or foreign language, as well as during both its oral and written use. This paper aims to present and analyze syntactic errors connected to the verb rection, which are caused by the influence of the students’ mother tongue, on the examples of chosen Croatian and Hungarian verbs. The target group in this study are therefore bilingual/multilingual students whose mother tongue is Hungarian, while the examples which make up the corpus are derived from their written and oral language during teaching practice. The purpose of the study is to determine to what extent the students of the target group make errors concerning the use of the verb rection of the Croatian verbs, but also to contribute to the correlation of the two languages in the context of teaching Croatian as a second and/or foreign language.
