Abstract

The paper explores oral tradition as a living and dynamic heritage that has shaped the cultural identity of the town of Trilj and the wider Cetina region for centuries. Oral literature represents an important form of collective memory and transmission of values, customs, and moral principles within the community. In this context, the paper will analyze newly transcribed traditional and
contemporary narratives, and the ways in which social changes, digitalization, and new media have influenced their transformation and reinterpretation. Special attention is devoted to the role of cultural associations, local festivals, and educational institutions in preserving and popularizing oral heritage, as well as their contribution to fostering a sense of belonging and continuity across generations. The aim of the paper is to show how the fusion of traditional and contemporary elements proves crucial for maintaining cultural continuity, while various cultural events and educational projects ensure that this heritage remains alive and accessible to new generations. In this way, the oral tradition of Trilj is affirmed not only as a part of cultural heritage but also as a driving force of social, educational, and tourist development in this region.
