Difficult Linguistic Heritage or Diverse Identifications with the Resian Dialect and the Cultural Heritage of Resia

Sažetak

This article explores the complex linguistic and cultural heritage of Resian dialect, which is deeply intertwined with the question of identity within the community of the Resia Valley. While some interpret Resian dialect as a Slovene dialect and an integral part of Slovene cultural heritage, others claim it as an independent language and a marker of distinct ethnic identity. The paper examines discourses in the media and in political texts, while also analysing the role of the folk song tradition and the intertextuality of ballads in shaping cultural identity. Particular attention is given to the intersection of language and folklore in processes of identification, exclusion and the creation of ideological boundaries.
