Sažetak

A sample was drawn from the adult population of Croatia (age 18+).
A three-stage systematic sample was applied. In the first stage, territorial sampling points were determined by a systematic procedure from a list of Croatian towns and villages sorted by county and level of urbanisation. The step was determined as the number of adult citizens divided by 63 planned sampling points. The number of inhabitants was estimated on the basis of Census 1991 data and data from organisations assisting refugees and displaced persons in Croatia. A sample of 16 respondents was planned for each point, but after the drawing up of sample points, the number of respondents was adjusted in order tο obtain a better proportion of the urban-rural population. In the second stage, the households were drawn from the list of households from Census 1991. And finally, respondents were drawn from within each household by method of Troldahl and Carter.
All interviews were completed between April 5th and 29th 1999. Sampling points were placed in 56 towns and villages and 1003 interviews of the 1008 planned were completed according to the planned procedure. 5 to 10 percent of respondents were contacted by telephone in order to verify the work done by the 68 field interviewers. The age of respondents was between 18 and 65.
