Abstract

Synodality, as a constitutive dimension of the life of the Church, likewise manifests itself as a defining mark of the mentality and manner of action of her members. The pontificate of Pope Francis—and in particular the recent synodal process connected with the XVI General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome—has drawn vivid attention to several key dynamics of synodality that are more than significant when it comes to confronting the demands and challenges of pastoral action today. In this respect, these dynamics will be even more important in the future. This paper examines certain elements of the dynamics of listening, welcoming, esteem, dialogue, discernment, inclusion, support and accompaniment, which, amid the demands of pastoral action, represent important anchor points for a stable and forward-looking engagement. At the same time, attention is drawn to those areas and elements of pastoral ministry in which the ongoing actualization of the indicated dynamics constitutes an indispensable framework for progress in such engagement.
