Sažetak
In the introduction, the author recounts his first experience with the Požega City Theatre at the start of its revival, alongside Antun Kanižlić’s “Saint Rosalia”, which formed the basis for a stage play. The paper then addresses the dramatization of this significant Baroque epic and its adaptation for contemporary audiences. The discussion extends to the makeup of the creative team and cast, as well as the collaboration with playwright Anita Jelić. Special focus is placed on the creative process, including improvisations with the young acting ensemble and their reflections on hell, purgatory, paradise, and the implications of reclusive and ascetic lifestyles. The paper also analyses the audience and critical reception of the production. In addition, it provides an overview of religious theatre traditions and modern interpretations of theatrical heritage, and examines research on performers’ roles in religious theatre using the concept of the “theatre of transformation” as articulated by Dariusz Kosiński. An essential aspect is a comparison between working on the same text 25 years apart, offering a new perspective on “Saint Rosalia” in a professional setting.
