Sažetak
As young actors raised under the pedagogical and artistic guidance of Branko Gavella in Zagreb Drama Theatre (today GDK Gavella), Sven Lasta (1925–1996) and Pero Kvrgić (1927–2020) later emerged as exceptional theatre writers during the mature periods of their theatrical careers. Lasta wrote columns for “Hrvatsko slovo” (1996), which were published posthumously as the monograph “Iz glumačkog kuta”. Kvrgić contributed columns to “Vijenac” (2000–2002), collected later as the book “Stilske vježbe” (2004). Both actors, when writing about theatre, adopt the perspective of their own stage experience. They discuss the actor’s role in the creative process, their relationship to the drama script and character, the director, partners, the stage, and the performances of predecessors. At the same time, they reflect on the actor’s position across different periods and theatre production contexts. This paper examines their diverse experiences, along with their views on theatrical style and poetics in recent history of Croatian theatre. The discussion identifies key questions about the role and purpose of theatre today, the life of the theatre, and the central place of the actor.
