Sažetak
Fabijan Šovagović’s play “Sokol Did Not Love Him” marked a significant milestone in the history of Croatian theatre and film. It is among the most intriguing Croatian plays of the 1980s. Božidar Violić directed the play, which premiered at the Drama Theatre Gavella in 1982. Joško Juvančić directed another production at the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek in 1983. Both achieved great success with audiences and ran many times. In 2024, the play returned as a co-production of the Croatian National Theatre in Osijek and the Drama Theatre Gavella. Fabijan Šovagović’s son, Filip Šovagović, directed the work, and his daughter, Anja Šovagović Despot, adapted it. The paper aims to identify how the play aligns with the requirements of the 21st century. It focuses on staging practices (creative team and ensemble) and contemporary social issues (drama of war trauma). The thesis is that the most recent production represents culturally conditioned changes at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.
