Sažetak

Sport is an activity of special interest for every individual, for the state, and the global community. Minors are persons who, due to their age, enjoy special legal protection provided by the state and society, based on national legislation, and international standards and regulations. When the fields of sport and the rights of minors are combined, it becomes evident that this is a topic of considerable importance, and the aim of this paper is to analyse the specific features of the legal status of minors in sport. Various legal issues are analysed, particularly those relating to the representation of children and the conclusion of legal transactions, primarily sports contracts. The specific characteristics of sports contracts involving minors and the shortcomings of the existing legislative framework are highlighted. The extraenhanced protection of the rights of minor athletes at the international level has been achieved through the adoption of various regulations by sports organisations, such as FIFA and UEFA. The professionalisation of sport involving minor athletes has given rise to specific relationships among sports stakeholders, who seek protection through judicial and other mechanisms; these issues are also analysed in the paper. Various scientific methods were applied in this research, including in particular, the inductive and deductive methods, the methods of analysis and synthesis, the method of abstraction and concretisation, the method of generalisation and specialisation, the method of proof and refutation, the method of classification, the descriptive method, the historical method, the method of compilation, and the comparative method. The paper concludes by presenting its findings and confirming the hypothesis that there remains considerable scope for improving the regulation of this area within Croatian sports legislation.
