Sažetak

The objective of this study was to explore the perceptual value of smellscape design in enhancing forest park
planning, using web-based text mining and sentiment analysis of scent perception. Smellscapes remain underexplored
in scenic planning due to their intangible nature, limited theoretical grounding, and a lack of consumer
behaviour research—particularly in forest parks. Using 9,020 manually validated smell-related tourist comments
collected via a web crawler from the travel platform Ctrip, this study applied web-based text mining to analyse
tourists' olfactory experiences. Guided by grounded theory and perceived value theory, a conceptual model of
tourists’ perceived value of smellscapes was developed. Analysis identified four core dimensions: olfactory aesthetic
value, olfactory experience value, recreational and wellness value, and olfactory emotional value, reflecting both
sensory and psychological responses to natural scents. The study proposes three practical recommendations for
forest parks: (1) promote the health and wellness benefits of scents; (2) maintain and design diverse and continuous
olfactory environments; and (3) enhance interactive experiences through scent-based installations and
activities. Future research should integrate offline interviews and contextual factors such as age, residence, and
climate conditions to refine understanding of tourists’ scent preferences and enhance the precision of smellscape
design in forest parks.
