Sažetak
The breast is the most common site of malignant tumours in women in the Republic of Croatia (25%) and worldwide, and breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women with malignant tumours. Treatment of breast cancer is associated with a reduced probability of both spontaneous and assisted conception, as well as an increased risk of infertility. Therefore, counselling on fertility preservation is considered a mandatory step in the standardised treatment protocol. Fertility preservation procedures include oocyte freezing and hormonal protection of the gonads. Fertility preservation does not delay treatment of the breast disease and is planned before its onset. Issues regarding the approach depending on the biological type of cancer, complications of pregnancy and childbirth, and the impact of pregnancy on disease recurrence, especially in cases of hormonally active and advanced stages of the disease, remain subjects for future research.
