Sažetak
The first part of the article shows the results of research into gender differences in religiousness in the world and in Croatia. All these investigations point at ambivalence of gender differences in religiousness, that is, while according to some researches gender is shown as a decisive factor of the differences in religiousness, whereas research where, besides gender there are other factors too, like age and education, gender loses its significance as the decisive distinguishing factor.
The second part of the article brings a research analysis of the Franciscan Institute for the Culture of Peace in regard to gender differences in religiousness under the guise of education, and shows that sometimes there are bigger differences on the basis of education than of gender, that is, that education is sometimes an homogenizing factor among members of both genders. Apart from this, in some cases men are more religious than women. Research points out that in regard to religiousness, men and women are not an homogeneous group, that based on the factor of education stratification appears amongst them and that this stratification is different between men and women.
In the third part of the article there is a review of different theories of gender differences in religiousness. Special attention is given to the essential theory that predominates in Croatia. This theory is evaluated in the light of the results obtained through the researches of the Franciscan Institute for the Culture of Peace and through pastoral practice.
