Prisunjača-Ciganica - a settlement of the Vučedol Culture in Vođinci, near Vinkovci

Sažetak
The paper presents the results of research conducted at the
Prisunjača–Ciganica site in Vođinci, near Vinkovci, one of the
more significant settlements of the Vučedol Culture in eastern
Slavonia. Research carried out between 2019 and 2025 has confirmed
that the site is a multilayered settlement with a long continuity
of occupation and changes in settlement organisation
over time. The earliest horizon at the site belongs to the Vučedol
Culture, with two settlement phases: 2910 – 2670 BC and 2667 –
2472 BC, confirmed by the remains of three structures, evidence
of construction activities and repairs, and a series of 11 AMS dates.
One particularly important feature is Structure 3, whose spatial
organisation and associated finds indicate a function relating to
the storage and processing of food. The structure was destroyed
by fire, during which the entire inventory was preserved in situ,
without prior removal, providing a valuable archaeological
context for detailed analyses, sampling and the interpretation
of the structure’s function and activities within the settlement.
Analysis of the ceramic assemblage indicates a high degree of
standardisation and uniformity in production, as well as connections
with nearby sites: Damića Gradina in Stari Mikanovci, and
Ervenica in Vinkovci. The results of geophysical surveys indicate
a minimum settlement area of 4.5 ha, with the possibility of a
larger overall extent, placing the site among the larger Vučedol
settlements. Although research is still in its early stages, current
results already suggest that the settlement at Prisunjača, due to
its size, position within the landscape and spatial organisation,
played an important role in the regional settlement network and
the socio-economic processes within the Vučedol culture.
