Abstract

Multifunctional agriculture does not have a single, universally accepted definition, but is based on the idea that agriculture influences not only food production, but also the social, cultural, and environmental context. It encompasses a range of agricultural and non-agricultural activities such as agritourism, education, landscape management, and local marketing. It offers solutions to contemporary challenges such as climate change, market globalization, and rural depopulation by increasing the resilience and sustainability of communities through diversification of activities. In Croatia, multifunctional agriculture holds significant potential for revitalizing rural areas, enhancing competitiveness, and ensuring long-term sector sustainability, although its development is still hindered by administrative and educational barriers.
