Sažetak
Background: In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Clubs of Treated Alcoholics (CTA) are the principal form of posthospital
treatment for alcohol addiction. Treatment in CTA rests on professional leadership, the contribution of the group, and
family support, with the aim of the person’s comprehensive recovery. Given the absence of research on the characteristics
and effects of CTA in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first comprehensive study was conducted. Aim and sample: The aim of the study is to determine the contribution of CTA attendance, the relationship with the professional, family functioning, and perceived social support to the assessment of the following dimensions of personal recovery: Self-confidence and positive expectations, Managing recovery and reliance on others, Orientation toward success and goals, and Overcoming symptoms of addiction. A total of 163 participants who were members of CTA in Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the study. The survey was administered in group format across 11 CTA using a convenience sample.
Results: Data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. The introduction of each predictor block significantly
improved the explanation of criterion variance for all four dimensions of personal recovery. Among individual factors, the
variable Level of involvement in CTA activities emerges as consistently significant in explaining all dimensions of recovery. Family relationships and social support are significant predictors of two dimensions of recovery. Conclusion: The findings support a holistic approach; however, further longitudinal and evaluative research is required to improve the CTA model.
