The Immateriality of the Soul in the Anthropological Thought of Thomas Aquinas

Sažetak
The anthropology of Thomas Acquinas can aptly be called philosophical psychology, insofar as the greater part of his anthropological writings is devoted to the investigation of the human soul: its nature, characteristics, faculties, origin, and relationship with the body. The paper explores the immateriality, or spirituality, of the soul understood as the fundamental characteristic of every soul, which clearly distinguishes it from the body. We demonstrate that Thomas addresses this topic in many of his works, and we therefore aim to analyse and present a selection of his arguments. Some are the well-known arguments from Summas, while others are lesser-known corollaries in which Thomas indirectly offers evidence for the immateriality of the soul. Given that the question of the definition of the soul is one of the fundamental anthropological questions, the first chapter is dedicated to the analysis of Thomas’s understanding of the soul, while the second chapter focuses on the question of its immateriality
