Organisation and Activities of the Municipal Staff of the Croatian Defence Council in Ljubuški during 1992

Sažetak
This paper uses archival material, relevant literature, and media reports to present the organisation and military path of the Municipal Staff of the Croatian Defence Council in Ljubuški during 1992. The period analysed spans from the beginning of the organisation of Croatian defence in Herzegovina and the establishment of municipal staffs to the transition of the Croatian Defence Council to a new system based on infantry brigades and independent battalions. Learning from the experiences of the war in the Republic of Croatia, the Croatian population in Bosnia and Herzegovina began defensive preparations in a timely manner and engaged in defence at the onset of the Yugoslav People's Army's aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the crisis staffs were formed and the active and reserve police forces organised, the Municipal Staff of the Croatian Defence Council in Ljubuški was established. It can serve as an example of the defence organisation procedure in predominantly Croatian regions of Herzegovina and BiH. During 1992, the Croatian Defence Council units from Ljubuški carried out combat tasks in the areas of Mostar, Čapljina, and Stolac and contributed significantly to the defence and maintenance of these areas. At the beginning of the open war, the area of the municipality of Ljubuški was targeted multiple times by the artillery and air force of the Yugoslav People's Army, but this threat was eliminated after the liberation operations of the Croatian Army and the Croatian Defence Council in June 1992.
