PHILOSOPHY AND MEDICAL ETHICS
Ivan Čehok
; Filozofski fakultet, Zagreb
Sažetak
Medical action has become one of the focal points of ethical
reflection, bringing about the establishment of a special subdiscipline
of ethics - medical ethics (the terms bioethics and doctor's
ethics are also used). It concerns applied ethics which has
been interdisciplinaršy conceived. In the text, the author analyzes
the origins of establishing medical ethics as applied ethics - philosophy.
In a short presentation, the possible types of medical action
regarded as a practical interpersonal relationship are depicted,
in order to define some of the key terms in today's philosophical
establishment of medical ethics, especially the term self-determination.
The author attempts to systematically emphasize
those ideas by means of which philosophy can help in reflecting
on certain levels of professional action, analyzing at the same time
philosophy's potential in facing up to concrete, controversial
social relationships (i. e. doctor-patient).
