Sažetak

Abstract
From the end of the Second World War, and particularly in the last decade, the rapid increase of the use of second homes has created an inescapable spatial phenomenon in most areas of Croatia, especially in its littoral. The aim of this study is to establish economic-geographical implications of the second home phenomenon in a receiving second home area on the example of the island of Krk, predominantly in the settlement of Malinska, which has, due to the intensified construction of multi-apartment recreational buildings in the past several years, become the „second home centre“ of the island. Surveys with local entrepreneurs, indigenous population and second home owners in Malinska, as well as the analysis of segments of income in the budgets of municipalities on the island of Krk related to second homes, have lead to the conclusion that the second home ownership has a moderately positive impact on the alleviation of the negative effects of seasonality in local communities, and that the actual importance of the economic-geographical implications of the second home ownership, despite its predominantly negative perception by the local population, is still by and large positive.
