Sažetak
Although the increased interest of researchers for proactive behavior can be traced in the past few years, there is still no unanimous definition, theory or measure of this construct. Different researchers have adopted different approaches in identifying antecedents and consequences of proactive behavior. Bateman and Crant (1993) consider proactivity a dispositional construct differentiating people in the kind of action they take to influence their environment. Since there has not been any research concerning this construct undertaken in Croatia so far, our main objective was to evaluate the newly constructed scale of proactivity under the working title of P1 (Zarevski, 2001). In order to test for the inter-correlations of this construct with those of shyness and assertiveness, the Shyness and Assertiveness Questionnaire (USA-M, USA-F) were used. Analysis of principal components on both male and female samples resulted in two factors, named proneness to planning and proneness to change . These factors, when rotated in varimax position, together explain around 18% of the results' variance. The reliability of both subscales and for both samples is between .53 and .74. The correlation of the results on both proactivity subscales and the number of years students failed, used as a measure of successful studying, has also been confirmed (r plan = -.16, r change = -.12, p<.05). For female subjects, the significant correlation was confirmed between this criteria and proneness to planning (r = -.13, p<.05). In male subjects, a significant relation of proneness to change and the results on both scales of Shyness and Assertiveness Questionnaire was confirmed (r shy = -.36, r assert = -.34, p<.00). These relations were found significant in female subjects as well (r shy = -.35, r assert = -.35, p<.00), as was the relation of the results of the shyness scale and the proneness to planning (r = .13, p<.05). With the aim of further investigating the proactivity construct, it will be necessary to add more items to the scale and to further test its relations with other cirteria of success in various functioning domains.
