Furthermore, according to this essay, these super-masterpieces are 4-dimensional; thematic, symbolic, allegoric and art-stylistic. Their themes were chosen by the commissioners (Popes and their theologians), not by the artists (as usually assumed). To a. illustrate, 'Urbi et Orbi' 'maiorem Dei gloriam', daily celebrated by the liturgy; b. to symbol-allegorize both the traditional theology of the theme and the commissioner's ideas on the contemporary Church problematics. This double symbol-allegorism usually by-passed (if not ignored) yet essential 'what', il here briefly explained.
Regarding the relative litterature, omitting the 'library' of the lay-authors, usually interested mostly, on the 'art-stylistic how’! the authors's suggesting just three editions of one-same, most recent and quasi official Vatican guides; namely, The Vatican and Christian Rome; 1. Smaller, popular (corrected), 2. As the Art Treasures of Vatican, for the libraries, published by Prentice Hall, in New York and 3. again The Vatican etc. volumionus 'de luxe' also as gift to the V.I.P. All three sponsored and introduced by two Cardinals (Benelli, Garrone) and by the Archb. Fallani of the Pontif. Sacred Art Commission, writen by the Vatican Museums-Galleries experts (D. R. de Campos and others). The 1st and the 3rd published in 1975 by the Vatican Polyglot Press, with ecclesiastical approval.
