ETHICS AND VALUES IN SOCIAL WORK
Kristina Urbanc
Sažetak
Controversial attitudes of society, social work ethics and the nature of practice often contribute to the pressure and feeling of guilt after having made relevant decisions, which have far-reaching consequences for the client’s life. Therefore this paper gives special attention to the contradictions of individual roles which are combined in the job of a social worker, and to the areas within which ethical dilemmas might arise. The author emphasises the importance of noticing the differences between ethical dilemmas and examples of badly conducted social work practice, as well as the reasons that could lead to cover-up of these differences. Knowledge of their personal and professional system of values, continued work on oneself, knowledge of legal regulations and changes and a permanent education in general will enable social workers to become aware of the existing dilemmas, create their own attitude in a specific situation and approach the problem and its solving with more confidence together with the client.
