Sažetak
SUMMARY: The paper explores specific hazards related to the practical part of the 4-year textile designer training in a secondary school of art and design. The testing was conducted in the textile-dyeing laboratory, where procedures such as washing, bleaching, dyeing, painting and other textile finishing processes take place. The hazards were analyzed according to their source, and categorized as fire hazards, chemical hazards, waste water hazards and hazards related to lab equipment and installations. The role of the teacher is absolutely crucial in accident prevention and implementation of safety measures. He/she must educate, control and caution the students and, in the case of an accident, react promptly and appropriately. The key elements that guarantee safety during practical work are the step-by-step, systematic and steadfast approach and the implementation of methods suitable for students of that age and competence. If these guidelines are followed, the students will be interested in their practical work and they will successfully learn the rules of safety at work, understand the procedures and develop an awareness of potential hazards. Work-related accidents can almost entirely be avoided by working in small groups, by using the individual approach to the student and by continual perfection of the school curriculum.
