Sažetak
Mass media is responsible for published materials while journalists are
responsible for their articles and other news material. But, instead of regulating it by law,
rules, regulations or similar measures that any country can undertake, it is the best to
leave journalism to the people from the profession who will, through self-regulation,
introduce a fundamental code of conduct, ethics and professional standards. That is
how one of the fundamental forms of self-regulation was founded: the Press Council.
At the moment, such councils act in twenty countries of the European Union and in
forty-seven counties of the Council of Europe. This year’s meeting of The Alliance of
Independent Press Councils of Europe (AIPCE) has strengthened a need for such
bodies even in countries in which they do not exist and confirmed how successful and
affective they are.
