Sažetak
Digital technologies paved the path to some new possibilities
in generating and exchanging information in various forms
and through various media. This development has gone so
far that the more traditional questions of media freedom and
its economical and socio-political determinism does not suffice any longer. In exploring the social role of the news it
is necessary to investigate the ways the technological
innovations in question are utilised, such as the media
companies' thrive in producing more content for less money
and in less time. Multimedial availability and exchange of
video, in particular, once reserved exclusively for television,
destabilises the traditional divide between the press, radio
and television media, and opens a debate about the new
forms of journalistic expression. "Digital news" which has
grown out of the maximised exchange of information
through multiplicated channels and converged media, has
set up some new rules on its own. To mention but a few,
what was the most important news item is now the latest
one, the institutionalised sources are accompanied by the
users, while television delivers information with the help of
the press, and vice versa. In order to cut through the
technological-institutional foundations of the so-called "new
trends", we foreground the issues around the media contents,
the increased fluctuation of which is fostered by the
development of media, which disperses the contents into an
array of directions and through various media technologies.
