Sažetak
Dear Colleagues,
As part of our regular of post-graduate courses for life-long medical training, in Category I in the field of malignant diseases in children, this year again a course will be held under the title: “Malignant tumors in Children – Supportive therapy in maintaining life”, where our prominent experts, with a wealth of experience in this field, will be holding lectures.
It is well-known that malignant diseases in children are in second place as the cause of death after accidents in children up to 15 years of age. Although tumors in children are still a major medical problem, significant improvement has been achieved in extending survival in children suffering from a malignant disease, and in some children and specific tumors a cure has also been found. Children who successfully overcome the illness, conquering the complications in the treatment itself, are faced with later side-effects, which are only now the focus of clinical research. Through advances in improvement of treatment of malignant diseases in children, better supportive therapy has also been achieved, in order to prevent or reduce the complications of chemotherapy and radiation.
Treatment of oncology patients, therefore, requires a multidisciplinary approach by experts in the various fields of medicine included in diagnostics, differential diagnosis and monitoring the course and outcome of the disease. This field is developing very intensively thanks to new technological capabilities. Doctors in a multidisciplinary team must accept new achievements in diagnostics, monitoring and treatment of children with malignant diseases. Our post-graduate course includes a review of papers by experts of varying specialisations in caring for children with malignant diseases, so that as wide a circle of health workers as possible would become acquainted with today’s possibilities in the treatment and care of children with malignant diseases.
