Sažetak

The modern approach to the development of moulds for injection moulding of polymers differs a lot from the conventional approach based exclusively on the designer’s experience and hypotheses. The increasingly complicated and complex mouldings and all the more frequent requirement for their improved quality, as well as shorter delivery terms, and possibly lower prices, have initiated a scientifically based, methodical approach to the development of moulded part and mould for injection moulding of polymers. In the phase of calculating and dimensioning the mould elements it is necessary to perform rheological, thermal, and mechanical calculation of the mould. Recently, thanks to the rapid development of computers and appropriate software, numerical methods have been gaining importance. One of the most frequently used numerical method is the Finite Elements Method (FEM), the application of which allows the user to perform the necessary mould calculations by computer simulation. Although the Finite Elements Method gives approximately accurate results, by using the appropriate databases, the simulation can give us acceptably accurate results within a relatively short period. The present paper gives an example of computer simulation of thin-wall injection moulding process.
