New Treatment Possibilities in Adolescent Acne

Sažetak
Acne vulgaris is a polyetiologic disease that affects 80-85% of adolescents. It is also one of the most frequent skin diseases. In most patients acne is a highly treatable disease and depends on a stage of skin changes. In mild cases only topical treatment is sufficient, while in moderate and severe cases local treatment is combined with systemic treatment. Regular skin cleansing together with currently the most frequent combination of topical keratolytic and antimicrobial therapy will remove abundant skin surface lipids, prevent closure of follicular openings and new comedo formations, as well as papules and pustules. In moderate cases topical treatment is combined with oral antibiotics, mostly low-dose tetracyclines or azithromycin, while in severe cases oral isotretinoin remains the treatment of choice.
