Abstract
The training of prospective peclodontists requires close cooperation between students and teachers. The teaching plan and the programme set up for 3 semesters enables the student to get acquainted with child psychology in the first semester, wits the etiology and pathogenesis of caries, with diseaes of the pulp and the parodontium and with their therapy. In the following two semesters the student applies the acquiered knowledge in the teaching institution or in the field. Consultations after every lesson dealing with theoretical problems or shortly before an examination are part of the teaching programme. The task of the prospective pedodohtist should also be a more active participation in the dental health education and coordination with teachers in schools. The basic conceptions of the causes of diseased teeth, hygiene and regular visits to a dentist should be included in the teaching of biology and presented in a clear way on a reasonable level. Part of the difficulties in practical teaching is an insufficient number of auxiliary teaching staff, large groups of students and restricted finances. A modern institution fitted out with the latest achievements in the field of dentistry and a sufficient number of auxiliary teaching personnel will enable the students to master the required material much more easily.
