Abstract

The ambiguity of Nadine Gordimefs position as a writer - her dual commitments: to society, and to writing itself - has had a decisive influence on the development of her creative vision. The aim of this paper is to illustrate the strategies of tictional writing used by Gordimer in expressing the basic duality that pervades all aspects of South African life and its politics.
