Abstract

In a time of economic crisis, leadership effectiveness
should be the goal of every leader. In this article, the
authors explore differences between Croatian and
Swedish managers, considering leadership styles,
perceptions of the qualities and skills of good leaders
and the use of the English language at work. There are
significant differences between the mean scores used
in this study to indicate attitudes toward individual
leadership styles in the two countries.
Furthermore, the results indicate that there are
differences between the Croatian and Swedish
managers’ concept of the most important traits and
skills of managers. The largest difference concerns
the use of the English language at work. The results
confirm that Croatian managers, as a part of South
– Eastern Europe, perceive current cultural practices
in their environment differently than their western
counterparts.
