World War I on Memorial Medals in the Holdings of the Modern Gallery

Abstract
World War I was a global war between two alliances of states (the Allies and Central
Powers) which took place on several continents from 28 July 1914 to 11 November
1918. The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, which included most Croatian lands, had a large
army. This recent history of Croatia can be studied from various memorial medals. The
Medals and Plaques Collection of the Modern Gallery, most of whose items belong to
the Dragutin Mandl Collection, contains ninety medals connected to World War I and
associated war events.
