Abstract

A study of chronic lead effects was carried out in the population of a lead smeltery area exposed for years to elevated concentrations of lead in air. This population shows all the biological changes indicative of increased lead absorption, but no clinical symptoms of lead .poisoning. A retrospective analysis of selected health indices and an examination of general health conditions have been carried out in both the exposed and the control population group. Simultaneously an environmental study has also been carried out. The investigation is still in progress. The present results indicate that there might be a reletionship between certain health indices and lead exposure. However, this has to be confirmed by further analysis of collected data.
