Abstract

The paper deals with the typological classification of Slavic Icmguages with respect to the so-called vocalic and consonantal types. Special attention is devoted to vocalic clusters. The vocalic clusters have heen analvzed with respect to their position mthin the word (initial, medial, final; intramorphemic or intermorphemic), with respect to the presence or absence of stress. as well as with respect to word origin (original, loamvord). The paper also adc/resses the notion of intervocalic context and deviations from reduetion rtdes in vocalic clusters (in Bulgarian). The comparison of languciges (Macedonian. Serbian, Bulgarian and Polish) is basecl primarily on text analysis, rctther than on the analysis of phoneme inventories. Preliminarv results of a larger research that is currently under way are presented.
