Abstract
The one-step cyclization of 4-benzylthiobutanal diethyl acetal
with various hydrazine hydrochlorides under mild conditions is
described. The obtained 3-(2 -benzylthioethyl)indoles were debenzylated
with sodium in liquid ammonia to the corresponding
3-(2-mercaptoethyl)indoles and bis-[3-(2-thioethyl)indoles], the sulphur
analogs of tryptophols.
