Abstract

On the basis of published archival material and literature, the authors analyse the politicial situation and diplomatic activities in Europe that led to the international recognition of Croatia in 1992. Particular attention is paid to the role played by the Holy See and Pope John Paul II in the process of international recognition of Croatia. The role of Pope John Paul II during the period of the Cold War, as well as overcoming the totalitarian and antireligious ideologies is also discussed.
