Abstract

At the beginning of the article, the author explains the term ‘transatlantic slave trade‘, as well as the causes of the enslavement of black people. After that, the article deals with the advent of the trade and the beginning of the involvement of Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, England, and France in the slave trade, along with the connections with their colonies in North and South America. The role of the African kingdoms in the trade is also explained. The next chapter deals with the conditions in which the slaves were transported, while the last chapters are about the reasons for and the process of the abolition of the slave trade, and the consequences of the slave trade.
