Abstract

Young adult fiction authors employ fanfiction approaches, which involve adapting specific source-texts to construct stories affected by them. Source-texts encompass a wide range of published materials, including fictional works, historical archives, and any other form of narrative influence. This research examines four often employed fanfiction methods utilized by reader-writers: oppositional gazing, alternate universes, cross overs, and mash ups. Young adult fiction disregards the rules of traditional adaptation and genre tropes, carving out its own realm for narrative innovation. Moreover, recent writers have an innate ability to locate instances in their chosen source materials where they can insert their personal stories and are driven by a desire to have input on the original manuscript. The connection between the text and its audience is in fact an intense and subjective occurrence for readers which may surpass the bond between the text itself and its creator.
