Abstract
The project started in October 2006 and was completed in August 2008. Countries involved in a project were Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Turkey. The aim was to support the implementation of environmental directives in these countries. The overall objective of the project was to improve the ability of local and regional authorities to implement the environmental acquis. This was done through providing support and training to local authorities in the production of strategic, integrated, action-oriented plans and programmes at local level with a particular focus on urban areas. The project focused particularly on the air, noise, waste and water sectors, in a series of target local authorities in each country. Training took place at regional and national workshops including two multi-country workshops with an aim of exchanging experiences. The 2nd Multi Country Workshop was held on 14-16 May 2008 in Istanbul. It included more than 30 participants from the pilot areas together with ministry representatives from the 4 countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Turkey). Sanja Tisma (IMO), head of Croatian team, presented Croatian results which have all been realised according to the project plan.
