Abstract

Pemphigus, including its main subtypes of pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigus
foliaceus and paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorgan syndrome (formally known as
paraneoplastic pemphigus), is an autoimmune blistering disease which is characterized
by acantholysis resulting from autoantibodies targeting epithelial cell surface antigens.
Elderly patients with pemphigus face unique challenges pertaining to diagnostics and
therapeutics. This review focuses on the special considerations which relate to the care
of this patient group
