Abstract
This work focuses on integrating photovoltaic (PV) systems into distribution grid to enhance power quality. Modern electric power distribution systems face many power quality issues such as total harmonic distortion (THD), DC offsets, low power factor, and unbalanced or distorted grid voltages and currents, which affect the system stability. To resolve these issues, a photovoltaic distribution static compensator with a second-order generalized integrator (SOGI)-based controller is used to suppress DC offsets, mitigate harmonics, and compensate for voltage and current fluctuations. However, the conventional SOGI controller has limitations in mitigating higher-order harmonics, rejecting DC components, and providing fast dynamic responses under grid distortions. To overcome these limitations, this work proposes a multiple second-order generalized integrator (mSOGI)-based controller. The proposed mSOGI controller is validated through MATLAB simulations under steady-state, dynamic, and faulty conditions. The results demonstrate that the mSOGI controller exhibits enhanced operational capacity compared with conventional SOGI in harmonic mitigation, DC offset rejection, dynamic response, and compliance with IEEE-519 standards.
