Abstract

As part of the project implementation, a study of the stability and buoyancy of the low-level vessel prototype was conducted under controlled conditions. Experimental tests compared calculated values of hydrodynamic and hydrostatic stability and buoyancy with data obtained from field tests. The research was carried out on six different vessel hull configurations, with varying driver masses, and during three sailing phases: displacement, planing and foiling. Key features such as buoyancy, stability, ease of planing, manoeuvrability, transition between motion modes, and return to a stable state after loss of trim were analysed. The tests were conducted in conditions without wind, waves, or currents, in both freshwater and marine locations. The results show that longer and wider hulls with greater displacement volume provide a more stable and comfortable ride, suitable for beginners, while smaller hulls are more agile and better suited to sporting challenges. The shape of the hull bottom and edges significantly affects stability and sailing quality, with a double concave bottom providing the softest impact during the transition from foiling to planing. The research results indicate that the calculations are accurate and reliable in predicting actual maritime performance, and validation under controlled conditions confirms the design and functionality of the low-level vessel prototype.
