Abstract
In recent times, balancing production efficiency and environmental sustainability has become a crucial concern for modern industries. In the race for higher profits, many manufacturers tend to overlook their environmental responsibilities. Industrial production is a major source of $CO_2$ emissions, which contribute significantly to global climate change. To address this growing issue, the current research presents an EPQ (Economic Production Quantity) model that integrates the strategies to mitigate carbon emissions into inventory management. The model focuses on adopting environmentally friendly production practices while adhering to regulatory emission limits. This study incorporates the idea of carbon trading to make the model realistic. A key feature of this approach is the inclusion of tree plantation as a natural method for offsetting carbon emissions, offering a practical and sustainable solution for reducing a company’s overall carbon footprint. The primary objective of this research is to determine the optimal production period to maximize overall profit. A numerical illustration is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of paradigm in practical situations. Moreover, a comparative analysis of outcomes, comparing scenarios with and without the tree plantation strategy, demonstrates its effectiveness in reducing emissions. Additionally, sensitivity analysis also confirms the stability of model and practical applicability. The results indicate that integrating sustainability into production planning can significantly reduce emissions without compromising economic goals.
