Abstract
Aim: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic disease which affects areas bearing apocrine
sweat glands and hair follicles. Pathogenesis of this disease is still unknown and it presents a huge social and therapeutic problem.Case report: A 43-year-old male patient presented
with typical lesions in axillae, groin and suprapubic region which persisted for ten years. He also had similar lesions in occipital region in form of perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens. The patient was earlier treated with peroral antibiotic therapy without any improvement. We introduced oral retinoids in therapy and his condition improved. Discussion and conclusion: It is important that hidradenitis suppurativa is diagnosed and treated as soon as possible given the potential physical and psychological problems that it can generate. Although wide excision still remains the mainstay of therapy in extensive forms of hidradenitis suppurativa, in this case report we wanted to present good results with oral retinoids.
