Abstract
This paper deals with the basic features of life-space which has been decisively shaped by information technology, as well as with the dominant attitudes towards the opportunities and limitations that information technology brings. We will address the issues of the quality of pub/ic discourse, of alienation, creativity and solidarity. We discuss the possible consequences of the global homogenisation and of the cultural historicities, which are being promo ted by information technology. On the positive side of this 'global culture of the present' we will illustrate a possible increase in global solidarity an the negative side, we will illustrate the flattening and shrinking of the space for human experience, which this uniform culture of the present imposes.
